right in the eye

"What we're talking about is getting to know fear, becoming familiar with fear, looking it right in the eye - not as a way to solve problems, but as a complete undoing of old ways of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and thinking. The truth is that when we really begin to do this, we're going to be continually humbled." - Pema Chödrön

maya, i've been listening to pema chodron lately too... it's amazing how much fear directs my actions (or lack of them). thanks for the reminder and the amazingly gorgeous flower. what is that?!

"not as a way to solve problems"...perfectly put...because it doesn't work as a Band-Aid, at least in my experience. Love that you used the image of a flower, because I know that I need to DIG in my garden of fear (and it is a garden that I have 'lovingly' tended over the years) to get to the root of my fears. And it is humbling. I think humility is grossly underrated as an emotion...truthfully, I think humility could be a bit addicting. Yeah, that's it...that's why I steer clear of it sometimes. ;)
