let's see what we can do

articulating wrong from right
attempting calm in midst of fright
distinguishing a shaft of light -
it's not just point of view.

loosening what's far too tight
corrective lenses, better sight
bringing gentleness to might -
if we won't work, then who?

finding in the wind, a kite
digging in the dark for bright
gardening instead of blight -
i'm just the same as you.

no more black and no more white
climbing for much more than height
a life more sensuous than slight -
let's see what we can do.

oh YES! (are you doing your own photos too? ... so nice!) love the title ... it has a very gentle quality of something said when trying to fix or adjust or make more comfy.

what a lovely invitation. as usual, maya, you blow me away. your poems leave me with the a bit of tension, i want something i can't name when i am finished reading. like a weird craving during pregnancy when oyster crackers will not do.

Ladies-

thank you all so much for the generous, jubilant support of my work. I love knowing you're out there. It really really really helps.

Oh, and to answer some questions:

Yes, Mikaelah, these are my photos - sometimes, when I'm lucky, I remember to take my little camera along with me.

And Pink Coyote: I'm glad you saw this, this feeling in my poems, that bit of tension you referred to, like the story's not quite done. Of course, this is like life, isn't it? And maybe that's what I love so much about writing, the way it can imitate life, speak to that feeling of "not-quite-there"-ness. There's something remarkable to me about writing in general - this almost endless combination of words we can string together, and yet...there's always another way of saying things, which means we're never quite done.

Which, as Martha Stewart would say, is a good thing.
